So, back to Liverpool and the ACC. A grey morning greets us – an English summer’s day some would say! – but the ACC is positively humming with activity!
A huge exhibition hall full of folk laying out their wares as if we’ve stumbled into a market day from the 15th century updated for 21st century technology (not to mention fabulous coffee machines!). The ACT team has been here since the weekend getting things up and running with the help of the excellent staff of the ACC and everything is prepped and ready. Your correspondent who happens to be Chair is also almost ready – by the time you read this I certainly will be!
I can remember ACT Annual conferences being a Friday night dinner followed by a Saturday morning of discussion and debate. The scale of what is before us now is testament to the dedication of so many, the support of many more and the contributions of sponsors and speakers to the growth and development of the profession. We have best-in-class knowledge from world class treasurers, interaction with more than 80 major financial and technology providers and all topped of by presentations from leading commentators and thinkers. There’s time for meeting old friends, making new ones, changing jobs, talking deals and prices, developing careers and even, for some, winding down old ones. (More on that later)
Much more than all that, though, is understanding why we’re here. Corporate treasurers are no longer just the boys and girls who look after the money. Yes, we still do that, but this conference is affirmation, if it were needed, that this is a profession at the top of its game.
I will be reporting more as we go along so keep your eyes on our social media for updates. Now, let’s get this show on the road.
