Many of us have been there. You spend months and months preparing for just the right opportunity to execute your funding plans and the markets are just not right.
You wait, you prepare some more, you cross your fingers and you convince your board it is the right thing to do. Eventually it all comes good.
It’s a familiar story and one which I heard many times during last month’s Treasurer Deals of the Year awards. It was wonderful to be surrounded by successful treasurers and their teams all of which have helped define what it is to be a leading treasury professional. The treasury profession is vibrant, the future secure.
This month the ACT is positively buzzing. There is something in the air. We have it all; the ACT Asia conference in Hong Kong, three webinars, the enrolment deadlines for our next qualifications, as well as the success of those who passed their examinations to celebrate. The treasury recruitment market is strong and prospective employers are searching for well qualified treasury talent. Do not put your career on hold. ACT now.
As the only treasury body with a Royal Charter, the ACT takes its public interest duties very seriously. We need strong responsible leaders to support and drive the development of the global treasury profession. Well, there is great news. No doubt prompted by this year’s action packed ACT annual conference theme – “If treasurers ruled the world” – the voting papers are out for the ACT’s Council elections. Let the hustings begin. Dropping into your email inboxes shortly will be biogs of eight of your peers who all want to be elected to the ACT’s Council. There are only 3 vacant posts – the gloves are off. Please do take time to read their profiles and most of all, remember to cast your vote by 26 March 2014. I am delighted that we have such a strong field to choose from. Council members play an incredibly important role. Present and former members of Council have successfully helped shape and develop the treasury profession over nearly four decades.
But just in case you are worried about electing a megalomaniac to Council don’t worry, I have spoken to them all and they seem more concerned about Lex Monetae than modelling themselves on Lex Luthor. The choice is yours – most of all please vote.
We really are looking forward to our Annual Conference in Glasgow this year. It is a great city and one which will give us a very special welcome. We are proud to be the warm up act for the Commonwealth games in June. Do come and join us. And if you want to play an active part in the ACT please come along to the Hub and have a chat. Are you a prospective treasury ruler? And would you measure up?
