With essential timely content, a fresh new format, and accessible from anywhere in the world, we were excited to present the annual conference online for the first time.
Over 1,700 delegates from 46 countries joined us to explore ‘Balancing risk: Championing sustainable growth’. We focussed on the key part risk plays in any treasurer's day to day role – a topic that has never been so relevant. Treasurers have always focused on balancing financial risks and opportunities as well as managing uncertainty while remaining profitable. However, increasingly new disruptors are appearing – whether that be the global pandemic, new geo-political challenges or shifts in business and consumer behaviour.
In terms of sustainable growth, ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) is now well and truly in the mainstream having accelerated through the current COVID-19 crisis and has huge ramifications for organisations large and small. ESG encompasses a wide range of areas including people, technology, regulation, supply-chain procurement and communities. Treasurers need to extend their existing risk frameworks to incorporate key ESG concerns and contribute to the strategic corporate direction.
The conference focussed on how treasurers can balance financial risks and opportunities, now and in the future, while ensuring business growth and sustainability.
Keynote address - The Rt Hon the Lord Hague of Richmond
William, Baron Hague of Richmond spoke on the current geopolitical environment, including his thoughts on the impacts and opportunities of Brexit.
He shared his unique perspective from an extensive political career including positions as Leader of the Conservative Party and Foreign Secretary.
Keynote speaker - Rohit Talwar
Aftershocks and Opportunities - Surviving and Thriving in a Rapidly Changing Reality
In this fast-paced session, global futurist and award-winning speaker Rohit Talwar shared scenarios to drive our planning over the next two years and practical strategies for how to evolve our operations in the face of uncertainty and turbulence. He drew on the new book Aftershocks and Opportunities - Scenarios for a Post-Pandemic Future in which he and 24 other future thinkers from around the world explore how to seize the positives and adapt to the unfolding global situation.
It can be hard to find new perspectives when you're working from home and connecting is limited to video calls. Our events platform, although necessarily virtual, is designed to help you find inspiration from expert speakers, connecting with treasury suppliers and, of course, networking with fellow treasurers.
