Considerable plaudits should go to the ACTME committee and the individual country representatives who ave fostered local and regional growth. This growth has mirrored the regional recovery from the 2008/09 financial crisis and although its impact still cuts deeply across some sectors many continue much as before.
Treasurers however continue to learn the lessons of the crisis and this showed in our focus in events and editorial during 2010. Risk Management, corporate governance and cash and trade finance were the most important topics for the year and look set to remain so. In this edition for example we have pieces on foreign exchange and the US dollar, Basel III and the importance of being aware of alternative funding sources.
Most importantly the ACTME is making considerable strides in education in the Middle East. In 2011 we will be providing tuition schools in Dubai for Cert ICM and Cert ITM – these will ensure even more students are successful in their first steps on the ACT qualification ladder. See www.treasurers.org/qualifications for details.
Sharp-eyed readers will note our name change to Middle East Treasurer – our intention is to be even more relevant, incisive and focussed on treasurers in 2011.
