We are pleased to announce that the ACT and ICAS (the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland) have agreed on mutual exemptions for our students and members as of May 2020. The ACT and ICAS have worked closely together on and off for many years and we are really pleased to have been able to look at supporting our members and students with their continuous learning and development.
In these challenging times of COVID-19, when so many things seem uncertain, it is important to remember that this won’t last forever and that continuing to learn and keep our minds active is of great benefit for peoples’ resilience. It also ensures we come out of this time with the skills necessary to face the different challenges and work that lies ahead in helping to rebuild the economy. All of our treasury qualifications provide a number of technical, operational, managerial and strategic competencies and skills, which will add to an accountant’s skillset and create well-rounded treasurers. We are therefore pleased to have been able to reconnect with ICAS and work together to provide mutual exemptions. This means that if any of our members are considering adding accountancy to their skillset, they can benefit from exemptions with ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA and CIMA. Additionally, if any accountants are keen to move into the treasury world, there are a number of exemptions available which will fast-track you onto our treasury qualifications.
Earlier this year in March, we also announced that we are now recognising accountancy bodies who have reciprocal relationships with ICAS, ICAEW, CIMA and ACCA. New to this list is the Chartered Accountants of Ireland (CAI) and the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA). They have now been added to the below list of accountancy bodies around the world, who will be able to take advantage of a higher number of exemptions:
CAI – Chartered Accounts Ireland
ISCA - Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants
CAANZ – Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand
CPA Canada - Chartered Professional Accountants Canada
HKICPA – Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants
SAICA – South African Institute of Chartered Accountants
CPA Australia - Chartered Professional Accountant Australia
CMA Canada - Certified Management Accountants of Canada
AAAUAE - Accountants & Auditors Association UAE
MICPA - The Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants
More information is available on our website and, when booking onto the course, all that will be required is for you to show your membership/qualification certificate and select your exemption route.
We wish you all the best during this time, stay safe and keep learning. If the ACT can support you in any way, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
“As a Chartered Accountant myself, who has also sat some of the ACT qualifications, it gives me great pleasure to see that, in awarding these exemptions to ICAS we both maintain our rigorous standards, but also avoid putting people through hoops which are unnecessary. It has been a pleasure to work closely with our peers at ICAS, to ensure we get this balance right" Caroline Stockmann, Chief Executive ACT
