Dubai 2017….day 2
Well, were did the sun go? We’re all a bit too old to go on a nature ramble, but it’s always nice to think the sun is shining outside while we’re inside a fourth floor ballroom in a 46 storey building! Sadly not to be though. I know, I know, it’s a hard life. Sometimes though there are compensations and day 2 of the ACT Middle East Summit 2017 provided them in abundance.
As much as the ACT is driven by technical skills that a contemporary treasurer needs, we also encourage treasurers to take a positive stance on personal development, acquiring life skills and demonstrating professional ethics. Indeed as a Chartered professional body, it’s part of our mission. Applying those behaviours in business life and corporate governance is a critical part of the treasurer’s role. Our morning sessions provided solid food for thought by focusing on personal and corporate values and corporate governance, both of which offered a window into the real opportunity for regional treasurers to bring their professional skill sets to bear on driving business and financial strategy in their businesses.
That was backed up by our closing session which looked at life from the CFO perspective. Not just what CFOs want from their treasury teams but how the role of the CFO is changing and what that means for treasurers who want that role in the C-Suite!
And the key messages?
Know who you are, know what you want but above all, communicate, communicate, communicate!
2018 is a big year for the ACT Middle East – our 10th anniversary and we’re planning to raise a big flag for us and the treasury profession as a whole. There’s no doubt that the profession in the region is ready to step up and be seen as a major contributor to business success and we’ll be there connecting minds and leading treasury professionals.
See you all next year!
