Each year, the ACT selects a charity that we will support for the upcoming twelve months. The main fundraising takes place at the Annual Dinner, however we try to identify as many other opportunities to support the charity as possible throughout the year.
For the past two years, we have supported MicroLoan Foundation, a UK-based microfinance charity that gives small business loans to women in Malawi and Zambia in southern Africa. During the two years combined, we have raised over £130,000, which has enabled the charity to help some of the poorest women in the world to feed their families, send their children to school, and pay for life saving medicines.
By providing small loans (average £60) and ongoing business training and support, we have helped women in rural Malawi and Zambia to set up their own self-sustainable businesses; enabling them to work themselves and their families out of poverty. A very big thank you for your support.
The ACT Charity Project team is on the hunt for a new charity to support in 2016, and we would like to invite you to help us with this process by letting us know your suggestions.
Whether it’s a charity that you work with personally, one whose cause is close to your heart, or just one with a mission that you admire, we would like to hear your ideas so that we can consider them during the selection process.
In order for a charity to be considered, they should meet the following requirements:
We will be agreeing a shortlist at the beginning of April, and inviting charities to present to the team shortly afterwards.
If you would like to make a suggestion or have any questions, please contact our Charity Co-ordinator, Edie Fairservice at efairservice@treasurers.org, by Wednesday 23 March 2016.
